The indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that Nigeria Air Force jets are hovering around Umuahia, near the house Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the group.
The pro-Biafra group in statement on Monday, May 29, by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said the soldiers carried out the shooting of its members in conjunction with other security forces, Daily Post reports.
Recall that the Biafra groups in the southeast issued a sit-at-home order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Biafra on May 30.
IPOB and other Biafra groups have accused security forces of clamping on them ahead of the May 30 Biafra commemorations. The IPOB insisted that the Biafra Day celebration on May 30 will hold, no matter the threat by Nigeria security outfits.
It said: "The soldiers and police are now shooting sporadically in Aba now where IPOB members were doing evangelism over the honour and remembrance of our fallen heroes and heroines scheduled to be hold on the 30th of May 2017.
“We want to put the whole world on notice of the plan of the Nigeria Government and her security agencies.”
“Right now the people living around Afara Ukwu Ibeku are running out of their respective places."
The group called on the international community other relevant human rights organizations to call the Nigerian government and its security agencies to order.
It said it only planned remember the 50 years of Biafra declaration by Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and to remember and honour those who died during the war of genocide against our the people of Biafra between 1967 and 1970.
The reports claimed that the supporters who are reportedly based in Malaysia travelled to Nigeria for the Biafra Day planned for May 30 and donated the live cow allegedly named “Buhari” to Kanu.
Vanguard newspaper writes that reports of the donation were first seen on an online news platform Breaking Times.
African Independent Television also reports that the cow would be killed for the May 30 celebration of the agitators’ Biafra Day.
